High heat for the next week

Today hot, tomorrow hotter and the weekend even hotter.

That's the forecast from Environment Canada for the next week, which has mostly sun and temperatures up around 30ºC.

Today is actually the coolest day in the seven-day forecast, with a high this afternoon of "only" 27ºC. That'll come with a westerly wind at 20 km/h, a mix of sun and cloud, and a UV Index of 8, which is considered very high.

A few clouds are expected tonight, with winds dying down this evening, and temperatures sticking in the teens, with a pre-dawn low of 13ºC.

After a sunny start to tomorrow, a mix of sun and cloud will herald a slight chance of showers later tomorrow afternoon, with the risk of a thunderstorm. But that might be expected, with a high tomorrow of 29ºC.

Friday will be sunny, with a high of 32ºC, followed by more sun and a high of 33ºC on Saturday.

Sunday should see a tiny bit of relief, with partly cloudy skies, a slight chance of showers and a high of 28ºC.

But the heat gets dialed right back up after that, with sunny skies and a high of 31ºC forecast for both Monday and Tuesday.

The normal high for this time of year is 26ºC; the normal low is 13ºC

The hottest it's ever been on a July 16 in Brandon was in 1966, when we notched 33.3ºC. The coolest was in 1976, when temperatures dipped to 5.6ºC. In 1982, we had record rainfall for the day of 73.1 mm.
