A seven-month-old baby girl is safe in the care of Child and Family Sevices after police found her abandoned in a stroller in the middle of the street at 3 a.m. this morning

The baby's mom was found a few blocks away, and claimed that she was high on pills and had forgotten that her daughter was with her.

Officers say that the abandoned baby was reported in the 200-block of 17th Street North, and police ensured that she was taken to hospital for a medical check. Child and Family Services took the infant into their care after she was cleared.

Police also checked the mother's home, but no other children were found.

The mom, a 23-year-old Brandonite, was arrested, although she's since been released. She'll appear in court on July 31, charged with abandoning a child.
