Assiniboine Community College will be presenting Harvey Armstrong with an honorary diploma in business administration at the college's upcoming Parkland campus graduation ceremony in Dauphin.

Armstrong said he is "very humbled at the thought of an honorary diploma."

A successful businessman, Armstrong is currently an owner and managing partner of five hotels across Manitoba, including Super 8 hotels in Dauphin and Swan River.

"Harvey is widely regarded as a leader in his community and has been a champion of our college for many years," said Mark Frison, president of ACC. "His contributions to the ongoing success of ACC and the Parkland region are outstanding, making him a natural choice for this award."

Armstrong was a member of the ACC board of governors from 2005–12, including six years as its chair. During his time, ACC began relocation and expansion to its North Hill campus in Brandon. The college's Parkland campus also saw major development and revitalization during his time as chair of the board, including upgraded childcare facilities, the addition of a practical nursing lab and facility expansion for rotating trades programs.

Armstrong has served on a number of boards, including Dauphin and District Economic Development, Dauphin and District Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Dauphin. His volunteer efforts include Scouts Canada, 4-H, the 2010 Royal Bank Cup and the 2014 Western Canada Cup.

ACC awards honorary diplomas to those who demonstrate excellence in their personal and professional accomplishments. Past honorary diploma recipients include Bob Mazer (2010), Dennis Hunt (2011), Carmel Olson and Al Dowhan (2012) and David Baxter (2013).

The graduation ceremony for ACC's Parkland campus will take place on Friday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Hall in Dauphin.
