Police say that a man found drunk while behind the wheel of a running car had a child with him.

The possible impaired driver was first reported in the early-morning hours of Friday, in the downtown area, and a witness was able to describe the vehicle as well as noting that there was a child in the back seat.

Officers quickly found a vehicle matching that description parked in a downtown hotel's parking lot, where it was running, with a man behind the wheel and a five-year-old child in the back seat. Because the man showed signed of being impaired, police arrested him and later found that he had a blood-alcohol content that was over the legal limit.

A 33-year-old Brandon man has been charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired and for having over .08 alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court date in early March.
