A tentative collective bargaining agreement has been agreed upon by the NHL and NHLPA and the start of a season is now being engineered by the league.
The NHL is pushing for 50 game schedule to start Jan 15. If it's a 48 game slate, Jets will open at 1 p.m. on Jan. 19th against the New Jersey Devils.
According to the MTS Centre calendar, Blue Rodeo is scheduled to play Jan. 16th and that will tie the building up for the day before and day after. So if it's a 50-game schedule starting on Jan 15, the Jets will open on the road.
Expect the Jets to recall centre Mark Scheifele of the Barrie Colts when allowed and he will be in camp. Under the old CBA, players with junior eligibility could play nine NHL games before a team would have to decide whether to keep the player for the entire season or return him to his CHL club.
It’s unclear if that number has been changed or if it will be pro-rated for a shortened season.
There will be no official response will come from the Jets until the deal is ratified by the NHL’s board of governors - which is expected to take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.
