Residents who were ordered to leave the Kingsway Kort trailer park have gotten a reprieve.

In an order handed down this morning, the Residential Tenancies Branch says it has deemed the eviction orders to be "not valid."

Eviction notices at the park were issued last summer, informing residents they would have until Dec. 31, 2014 to find a new place to live.

The decision that these notices were not valid follows a meeting with the Residential Tenancies Branch on Nov. 28 at which both the landlord and some tenants were present.

Kingsway Kort has been the subject of controversy for months, as a developer took over the trailer court with plans to instead turn it into a high-end apartment-condo complex.

The developer, doing business as Brandon Evergreen Developments, has said that it has given ample notice for tenants to move out, and has offered compensation packages.

About 60 of the park's 73 residents had apparently accepted one of the packages. The other 13 had not.

Both sides in the dispute have also had their cases heard by city council. The city is also in the process of considering a request from the developer to rezone the land.
