Latest Highway 10 North upgrades complete

The improvements to Highway 10 between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 25 near Brandon are complete.

The project upgraded a 15-kilometre stretch of the roadway to meet current industry standards, improve safety and reduce congestion through the construction of passing lanes.

"I will continue to support projects in Brandon-Souris that boost the economy, create jobs and focus on the safety of its residents," Brandon-Souris MP Merv Tweed said Thursday in a release. "Our government remains focused on the economy. That is why our government is proud to support infrastructure projects that will boost the economy and create jobs for Canadians."

The project involved the reconstruction of aged pavement to increase the highway’s loading capacity and improve safety. In addition, highway shoulders were widened and upgraded from gravel to paved surfaces with rumble strips, and new 1.5-kilometre-long northbound and southbound passing lanes were constructed.

As previoulsy reported in the Brandon Sun, the project — a joint federal-provincial initiative — was estimated to cost approximately $15 million and was on schedule.

Premier Greg Selinger is expected to be in Brandon Friday also to discuss the work on Highway 10.
