After 16 years covering city council meetings as a broadcast journalist, John LoRegio has decided he'd like a seat at the table.

LoRegio announced Wednesday afternoon that he'll be seeking the Meadows ward seat that's up for grabs in a June 26 byelection.

"I thought ... I’ve written about council for all these years, maybe it’s time to take a perspective from the other side of the table," LoRegio told the Sun.

Ramona Coey and Vanessa Hamilton have also declared their intention to run. Nominations don't officially open until May 15.

Meadows Ward was left without a councillor after Jim McCrae stepped down late last month to become a citizenship judge.
