Two agricultural producers from rural Manitoba were welcomed to the federal government's Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food last Thursday.
Merv Tweed, The Conservative MP for Brandon–Souris, and chair of the committee, says he was pleased to welcome them.
"I feel it is integral to have local producers speak to the committee and let them tell us what is happening on the ground," Tweed. "(They) showed themselves to be very knowledgeable and a great asset for the committee going forward."
Medora's Cal Vandaele and Minto's David Rourke appeared at the committee. Vandaele currently is owner/operator at Vandaele Seeds Ltd., where he specializes in wholesale/export. Rourke is president of AgQuest Research.
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food may examine any issue related to Canada’s agriculture and agri-food industry and is a public forum where specific events or initiatives affecting the sector can be addressed.
