A charity golf tournament has raised $5,000 for the Westman region of Special Olympics.

Merv Tweed, the Conservative MP for Brandon-Souris, has hosted the charity golf tournament for four years and said it was a complete success.

"We had a full slate of sponsors and golfers that have been so generous for the fourth year in a row," Tweed said. "I am happy to be able to put on an event that benefits the local Special Olympics athletes."

The tournament was held on June 22 at the Shilo Golf and Country Club.

"Grassroots fundraisers like (this) help our Westman Region to thrive and our athletes realize their sport dreams!" said Kim Morphy, vice president of marketing for, Special Olympics Manitoba, which provides sport opportunities for individuals with an intellectual disability.

Next year's tournament is tentatively scheduled for June 21, 2013.
