MTS lags on Z10's debut

SOME Manitobans will have to wait longer than the Feb. 5 national launch of the BlackBerry Z10.
Rogers, Bell and Telus will have the new BlackBerrys in next Tuesday, but MTS, the largest mobility company in the province, won't have the new devices until early March.
Stan Kurtas, MTS's vice-president of marketing, said the large national carriers with deeper supply chains will get the phones first because they have more spots to get them into.
As a regional player -- even though it has a commanding share of its regional market -- MTS has to wait. Even SaskTel subscribers will have access to the new phone next week, owing to the fact it is part of Bell's distribution network.
But based on historic market reactions here, Kurtas does not think the delay will be too painful for MTS or its customers.
"We launched the iPhone 4 a year after everyone else and it was the single-biggest sales day we've ever had," Kurtas said. "We don't think our customers will be too worried about waiting a couple of weeks, especially knowing they can pre-order right away."
