Man accused of taking cash from woman

A man spotted chasing down a woman Wednesday evening stands accused of assaulting her and taking money from her.

Police were called shortly before 10 p.m. that evening, when the man was seen chasing the woman around the 300-block of 11th Street. Officers who responded managed to find the victim, who says she knew the man coming after her.

She told police that the man was demanding money from her, but that when she refused he threw her to the ground and took it anyway. Police say she was robbed of a small amount of cash. The woman also said she had been assaulted by the same man the evening before, when he had punched her in the upper body. She had swelling and bruising from that assault.

The suspect was located and arrested nearby. Police say he had been drinking, despite being on probation and not being allowed to.

A 21-year-old Brandon man was to appear in court this morning, on charges of robbery with violence, assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation.
