Man cut on hand while defending self

A man was cut on the hand while defending himself from a knife-wielding assailant late yesterday morning. Police took a suspect into custody; he now faces a couple of charges.

Officers were called to a home in the 900-block of Fourth Street North at about 11 a.m. yesterday. They say the victim, a 56-year-old Brandon man, had been cut on the hand while defending himself.

The suspect, a 21-year-old Brandon man, was located in the residence. He's been charged with assault with a weapon, and [ossession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is to appear in court on May 9.
