A man remains in a coma in a Winnipeg hospital after a beating earlier this month at the Brandon Correctional Centre.
Police said previously that the man had been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after an attack late in the evening on Thursday, July 10.
They said the next day that they believed he had been attacked by four to five other inmates, but they didn't have a motive.
Today, police said that their investigation showed he had been punched in the head, which caused him to fall to the ground; after that he had been kicked in the head.
Police previously said that his injuries also included lacerations or gashes. No weapons were believed to have been involved in the assault, which happened in a subunit of the jail.
The medium-security BCC has a capacity of 252 inmates, but at the time of the attack it was crowded with a population of 317.
