A Brandon man who was spotted behind the wheel of an idling vehicle faces a number of charges after attracting police attention.
Officers say the vehicle was in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3000-block of Victoria Avenue with the engine running, and the man had been sitting behind the wheel for a period of time when they decided to check him out.
Because he showed signs of being impaired, he was arrested for having care and control of the vehicle. A search also turned up a small amount of cocaine and some quantity of cash.
When officers got him back to the police station, he failed to breathe enough into the breathalyzer for it to get a reading. However, police also learned that he was under a court order that prohibited him from drinking any alcohol at all.
Now, the 37-year-old faces charges of having care and control of a vehicle while intoxicated, refusing a breathalyzer, failure to comply with an undertaking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime.
He was kept overnight at the Brandon Correctional Center and was to appear in court on Friday.
