Police blame alcohol and lack of seatbelt use for contributing to a head-on crash near Dauphin late last week that killed one man and sent another to hospital.
Emergency workers were called to Road 151 about eight kilometres north of Dauphin just past midnight on Thursday night.
Two pickup trucks had smashed into each other head-on in the crash, spinning off into the ditches.
Police say that the westbound pickup ended up in the south ditch. That truck's driver, a 55-year-old Dauphin man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the other truck, which was headed east and ended up in the north ditch, was a 25-year-old rural Dauphin man who was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the man who was killed is not being released by police. They continue to investigate.
