Man pronounced dead on scene of rural crash

A two-vehicle crash south of Baldur claimed the life of on man yesterday afternoon.

A 66-year-old man died at the scene of a two vehicle crash south of Baldur yesterday.

Killarney RCMP responded to the collision at 4:45 p.m. on Government Road two-and-a-half kilometres south of Baldur.

A gravel truck was driving northbound and slowed to make a right turn when the pickup truck tried to pass on the right but hit the turning vehicle and rolled.

The driver of the pickup from Rock Lake died on scene and a 65-year-old passenger, a man from the RM of Argyle, was transported to Winnipeg and is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the gravel truck, a 71-year-old man also from the RM of Argyle, suffered no injuries.

Police say alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the collision and didn’t confirm if seat belts were worn. An RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation which continues.
