One Manitoban has cracked the final roster for Canada’s Olympic women’s hockey team, as defenceman Jocelyne Larocque made the final cut on Monday.

Second time is the charm for Larocque, 25, who was released from the centralized roster in the run-up to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. This time, she is among 21 players who will head to Sochi, including 12 veterans of the 2010 gold medal-winning team.

Only one other Manitoban, forward Bailey Bram, was still in contention for the final roster. The 23-year-old Bram, who is from Ste. Anne, has played on Canada’s world championship team.

Larocque, who also hails from Ste. Anne, twice won an NCAA Division 1 national championship with the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. She will now join a team battling for its fourth straight Olympic gold in Sochi.

Before heading to Sochi, the team will play two exhibition games against rival the United States, the first in St. Paul, Minnesota at 3 p.m. on Dec. 28 and the second in Toronto at 6 p.m. on Dec. 30.
