Manufacturers in province see strong sales in November

Manitoba’s manufacturers enjoyed a decent month in November, with sales up 2.1 per cent from the previous month, new Statistics Canada figures show.

The agency said the province’s factories shipped out $1.32-billion worth of goods during the month. That compared with $1.29 billion in October.

November’s total was also a 1.8 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when just under $1.3-billion worth of goods were sold.

The month-to-month gain was double the national average. Statistics Canada said Canada’s sales were up only one per cent to $50.5 billion from just under $50 billion in October. The year-over-year increase was 1.9 per cent.

Statistics Canada also released the November sales data for Canada’s wholesalers today. It showed that Manitoba’s wholesale sales were up by a modest 0.6 per cent to $1.33 billion from $1.32 billion in October.

However, November’s total fell 3.3 per cent short of November 2012’s total of $1.38 billion.

Nationally, Canada’s wholesale sales were unchanged from October to November, at $50.4 billion. But they were up 2.3 per cent from a year earlier, when sales were just under $49.3 billion.
