Mercury a rising

Homes in Brandon had good reason to flip the furnace switch to "off" after the mercury continued to rise in the Wheat City as temperatures continued to flirt with the teens and could get as high as 18 C this week.

The temperature could get as high as 15 C today, while Saturday the mercury topped out at 13 C under sunny skies.

Monday is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with a high of 18 C and a low of 3 C. Although the weather is welcomed, it pales in comparison to the record high of 27.8 C set in 1988. There is a 40 per cent chance of light rain throughout the day.

On Tuesday the trend continues, as the temperature could reach as high as 17 C.

The temperatures are well above seasonal norms, which is anywhere between -1 C and 12 C.

Later in the week, Brandon will see a return to normal temperatures as Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are all expecting highs around 10 C.
