Brandon Sun - ONLINE EDITION

Milder morning, but extreme cold to return tomorrow

A morning that dawned in the minus-teens felt like a pleasant relief after days of sub-minus-20, but things will get worse before they get better.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -17ºC this afternoon — the warmest it's been all week, although still significantly below normal.

Almanac

  • Normal high: -9ºC
  • Normal low: -19ºC
  • Record high: 3.9ºC (1997)
  • Record low: -33.4ºC (2000)

Cloudy skies will bring a chance of flurries early this morning, and winds this afternoon may push the wind chill to -32, but it's still better than the extreme wind chill of the past few days.

Clouds continue overnight, with snow beginning this evening. About 2–4 cm is expected overnight, with a low of -27ºC.

Tomorrow should be cloudy and cold, with a high of -24ºC and a wind chill down to -36. Some more light snow is expected tomorrow evening.

Saturday will see a mix of sun and cloud, but the chilly air will stick around, with a high of -24ºC.

Clouds return on Sunday, as the temperature begins to moderate. The Sunday high should hit -17ºC, but the really nice days are next week.

Sunny skies are predicted for Monday and Tuesday, with a high of -4ºC on Monday and then -9ºC on Tuesday.

At this point, the Wednesday forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -10ºC.
