More Manitobans collecting EI
WINNIPEG — There were nearly 1,200 more Manitobans collecting Employment Insurance benefits in July of this year than in July 2011, according to new Statistics Canada figures released today.
The seasonally adjusted figures show there were 12,900 Manitobans collecting the benefits versus 11,720 a year earlier.
The 10.1 per cent increase was the largest year-over-year gain in the country, the agency said, and contrasted sharply with the national situation, where the number of Canadians receiving EI benefits fell by 6.4 per cent — 507,970 versus 542,910.
However, the month-over-month picture was brighter for Manitoba, with the number EI recipients in July up only slightly — 200 workers, or 1.6 per cent — from the previous month.
Statistics Canada said Manitoba was one of five provinces to see a month-over-month increase. Canada posted a 0.2 per cent decline, while Alberta had the biggest gain at 8.7 per cent.

I don,t understand why we have so many Help Wanted signs, in all types of work and with a wide choice of skills that we have so many people "out" of work and seeking EI contibutions. Is it just me or is Manitoba populated with so many misfits and disfuntional people that we have to pay extra taxes to support this type of mentality or is our government unable to encourage people to seek employment: or is our work force so over burdened with the tax load, they have just given up.
