Multicultural festival expands to two days

Brandon’s growing multicultural community will welcome all comers this weekend to the third annual Multicultural Summer Festival, set for July 6–7 in downtown Brandon.

This year’s festival has been expanded to two days from its previous single-day editions. It will kick off at the newly-opened Global Market on the corner of 12th Street and Rosser Avenue this Friday evening.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, people can browse through the open-air Global Market while listening to a live music performance from Trio Bembe and Son Urbano from Winnipeg.

"We’re very excited about this year’s festival," said Hope Roberts, the city of Brandon’s acting community development coordinator. "We have committed sponsors for this project and a great line up of entertainment over the two days. We hope that the festival will continue to be an event that the public and community organizations dedicated to celebrating our multicultural community can look forward to for years to come."

On Saturday, July 7, the festival serves up a full eight hours of activities in Princess Park, beginning at 3 p.m. The day will showcase a number of musical performances, musical and artistic workshops, crafts and community vendors and a variety of ethnic food offerings.

"This year’s festival features a variety of ethno-cultural groups, including some of those that have helped make the annual Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival such a success," Roberts said.
