New website to list municipal elections results for Manitobans

The results of the summer elections taking place tomorrow in the Village of Dunnottar, the RM of Victoria Beach and the RM of Winnipeg Beach will be live on Manitobavotes.ca as a test run for the fall elections Oct. 22.

The web page was created for the Association for Manitoba Municipalities.

AMM President Doug Dobrowolski said the site allows municipalities, including Winnipeg, to post the results from their local election into a central, online system. Manitobans then can see the vote results from each municipality's election as soon as they are posted.

"Municipal elections are important to not only local citizens, but to journalists, former residents and others," Dobrowolski said today in a release. "That is why the results of these elections should be available far and wide."

AMM says until now municipal-election results have been a mystery when it comes to identifying the results in all municipalities.

"Although the results from the larger centres are usually publicized through mainstream media, Manitobans often have to wait days until all the results are made available province-wide," says Vern Sabeski, president of All-Net.ca, the developer of Manitoba Votes.
