North Hill hike-and-bike trail to open Sunday

A grand opening of Brandon's new hiking and mountain biking trail is set for this Sunday.
The trail, expanded and updated from leftover portions of the mountain bike course used at the 1997 Canada Summer Games, is already signed and open to the public, but will be ceremonially opened with a mountain bike race at noon that day.
At 6.2 km in length, featuring a number of switchbacks and steep areas, the trail will be a summer recreation complement to nearby Hanbury Hill, the city's newsest tobaggan area.
Healthy Brandon partnered with the city as well as with the local mountain biking community to create the trail. It loops westward behind the Sportsplex, south of Braecrest Drive.
The official opening will take place Sunday at 11:30 a.m., with the race — officially sanctioned by the Manitoba Cycling Association — to follow at noon. Some of the the top local and Manitoba riders are expected to be on hand for the race.
