A spike in temperature is expected today.

It's going to by a gorgeous day today, with clear skies and mild temperatures. But it's not going to last.

Temperatures rose all night long to dawn at -6ºC this morning, and Environment Canada is calling for a high of -1ºC this afternoon with a mix of sun and cloud.

A few clouds are expected tonight, with a low of -13ºC.

Although it won't be as warm tomorrow as it is today, temperatures will be a lot closer to normal.

Tuesday should see a high of -10ºC as cloudiness increases, followed by snow on Wednesday and a high of -9ºC.

Sun returns for Thursday — as does the cold air. Thursday high will be -19ºC, followed by a high of -17ºC on Friday.

At this point, the weekend looks like it will continue a new cold snap. Saturday will be sunny with a high of -20ºC, then a mix of sun and cloud on Sunday and a high of -17ºC.

The normal high for this time of year is -10ºC; the normal low is -20ºC.

The coldest it's ever been on this date was in 1972, when it was -30.6ºC. The warmest ever was in 1962, when it reached 6.1ºC.

Although Brandon hasn't broken any cold-weather records so far this winter, the two-wek cold snap that just ended has set the city on pace to make this the coldest December in more than a decade.
