Tubas and euphoniums will be the focus of Oktubafest on Oct. 5-7.

A weekend of big brass music and German food is in store as the International Peace Garden presents the inaugural "Oktubafest."

The three-day event is scheduled for Oct. 5–7 and will feature a number of special programs offered to the public.

On Friday night a recital by professional euphonium artist Adam Frey of Atlanta and tubist Jerry Young of Eau Claire, Wisc., will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Burdick Centre for the Performing Arts at the International Music Camp. A small admission will be charged at the door. From 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. in the Peterson Dining Hall just across from the recital area, kraut and brats on a bun wil be served.

Performances and workshops for tuba and euphonium players will be the focus of the weekend at the International Music Camp. High school and college musicians  and teachers, as well as adult amateur musicians are invited to participate in both the learning and performing events. Master classes, repertoire sessions and a massed tuba-euphonium choir will take place Friday night through Sunday.

On Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Burdick Centre, the massed tuba-euphonium choir will perform in concert with Frey and Young, and will feature the world premiere of a composition by Kenyon Williams commissioned especially for Oktubafest. A special tribute to long-time music camp euphonium instructor Harold Brasch will precede the performance. Again, a small admission will be charged at the door.

Oktubafest participants will also offer a tuba Sunday morning worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Burdick Centre.

Preceding the concert on Saturday there will be Bavarian-themed foods available to  enjoy in the Peterson Dining Hall from 5–7 p.m., including sauerbraten.
