A somewhat elaborate plan to break into a Brandon home was thwarted by Brandon police before anything was stolen early Saturday morning.
A 60-year-old man appeared to cut the phone line to the residence, remove a basement window screen, and smash the window to gain entry into the home, police say.
But an alarm was activated, and the man fled — but only got as far as the backyard, where police found him.
Police say nothing appears to be missing from the house.
The man will appear in court in August facing a break and enter charge.
