Pizza deliveryman tracks down thief

A pizza delivery driver who shooed-off a man trying to drive away in his delivery vehicle chased down the would-be thief when he also noticed that his cell phone was missing.

The delivery driver had parked his vehicle outside Santa Lucia Pizza, in the 1800-block of Queens Avenue, at about 11:15 p.m. Monday night, but when he went back outside, he found another man in the driver's seat attempted to to drive off.

When he was able to prevent the would-be thief from driving away, the suspect jumped out and started to walk away. That's whtn the driver noticed his cell phone was missing from the car.

He pursued the suspect, and was able to apprehend him and hold him until police arrived.

A 33-year-old man, who police say was intoxicated, was arrested and jailed overnight. He was to appear in court Tuesday morning, charged with theft of motor vehicle and theft under $5,000.
