Police looking for an impaired driver found a stolen car instead.
The red Dodge was reported to them several times late Tueday, starting around 11:45 p.m. At about 12:30 a.m., one of the callers was able to provide a license plate number. That's when police learned that the car had been reported stolen from Alexander the previous day.
Officers soon spotted it at the 34th Street 7-Eleven store, where it was stopped at the fuel pumps. They watched as the driver got out and went into the store, then arrested the passenger.
After that, the driver was arrested inside the store, without incident.
Police say the driver was a 21-year-old Brandon man. He's been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. They also turned up two arrest warrants in his name for failure to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.
The 18-year-old passenger, a Sioux Valley man, was also arrested for possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of failing to comply with his probation.
Both were to appear in Brandon Provincial Court today.
