Police ask for vigilance after attempted break-in
An unsuccessful break-in attempt has sparked a police plea for the public to check their properties regularly.
In a release this morning, the Brandon Police Service reminded people that they should be checking their homes, businesses and yards for any damage, attempted break-ins or thefts, and they should be reporting any occurences.
Residents can also help deter lawbreakers by keeping their properties tidy and maintained, police advise, especially by removing overgrown bushes and weeds, by cleaning graffiti as soon as possible, and by storing valuable securely.
The warning comes on the heels of a series of garage break-ins over the past couple of weeks.
The latest report was a damaged door in the 100-block of 16th Street. The door was damaged in an attempt — ultimately not successful — to break into a garage, sometime between 10 p.m. on Wednesday night and 7 a.m. the next morning.
Police say the incident is under investigation.
