Police officer punched; man loses tooth

On April 15th, at about 2:30 a.m. Police observed a group of men fighting on the bike path in the 3100 block Victoria Avenue. Staff from a local business were having difficulties with these individuals and it was quickly learned that one of the men had smashed a bottle over another man’s head inside the business a short time earlier and staff were attempting to detain him. The suspect was identified and he was arrested and taken to the Brandon Correctional Centre. The victim received a cut to his head that required medical treatment and he lost a tooth. As a result of the incident, a 23-year-old Ste. Rose man will appear in court in June on charges of Assault with a Weapon and Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Also, while a police officer was arresting the man, a second man attempted to intervene by punching the officer in the face. The man was quickly arrested and restrained. A 24-year-old Ste. Rose man was also taken to BCC and has been charged with assaulting a peace officer.
