A man who claimed he found drugs the police lost didn't fool Brandon police officers.
On Tuesday morning, a 29-year-old Brandon man arrived at the police station asking to speak to the officers who he claimed had raided his house. He turned over a small bag of methamphetamine he said police had misplaced.
However, police never searched his house, and the wannabe informant was instead arrested for possessing methamphetamine. A search of the man indicated he was also holding a small quantity of cocaine, which he was charged with possessing.
He will make his first court appearance in March.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Dave Andrew said the humorous incident isn't out of the ordinary.
"I wasn't surprised at all by this, but when you first hear about it, you have a little bit of a chuckle," he said.
"We've had people who are intoxicated actually drive to the police station, and I've seen people attend to the police station and turn over drugs and have illegal drugs in their possession."
