Police seeking older Taurus after fatal hit-and-run

Police say they are looking for a 10-year-old Ford Taurus as they try to track down the vehicle that hit and killed a man near Grandview last week.

The Taurus, which may be from the 2000 to 2003 model years, is considered a vehicle of interest in the investigation and police are asking anyone who may have seen one in the area to give them a call.

The 22-year-old victim of the hit-and-run, a man from the Valley River First Nation, was walking along Highway 5 near Grandview on Tuesday evening, May 1, police say, when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Passers-by saw the man on the highway, called 911, and the man was taken to hospital, but he died from his injuries.

It was raining and dark at the time of the collision, which was about 10:40 p.m.. The man was found about 1 km northwest of Grandview, which is in-between Dauphin and Roblin, just north of Riding Mountain National Park.

Anyone who may have seen a Ford Taurus in the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact the RCMP either in Dauphin at (204) 622-5050 or in Grandview at (204) 546-3196.
