Manitobans will be able to show off their love for animals on the back of their cars.

The province today announced that a Winnipeg Humane Society specialty plate will be available through Manitoba Public Insurance on April 1.

The plates will cost $70, with $30 of that fee going towards the humane society.

The humane society takes in some 8,000 to 9,000 animals a year and cares for nearly 400 at any one time.

"Our supporters are passionate about animal advocacy and this new plate is the perfect way for them to promote the work we do wherever they go," said WHS CEO Bill McDonald.

Humane society supporters will be able to buy the plates at any of the province’s more than 300 Autopac agents.

This is the eighth specialty plate issued by the province. Among the others are plates recognizing the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Goldeyes, Brandon Wheat Kings and Curl Manitoba. As well there are specialty plates to honour veterans and firefighters.
