Manitoba’s factories shipped out $1.28 billion worth of goods during April, according to Statistics Canada.

WINNIPEG — Manitoba was one of seven provinces to post a drop in manufacturing sales in April, according to new Statistics Canada figures released today.

The agency said Manitoba’s factories shipped out $1.28 billion worth of goods during the month. That was a dip of 1.3 per cent from March’s total of just under $1.3 billion.

The decline was the second smallest among the provinces that saw weaker sales. It followed a 0.2 per cent increase in March.

Despite the poorer month-to-month showing, Manitoba’s April total was still a 3.7 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $1.24 billion worth of goods were sold. It was the smallest increase among the six provinces that posted an April-over-April improvement.

Nationally, manufacturing sales fell by 0.8 per cent to $49.1 billion. StatsCan said it was the third decline in four months, but the total was still a 5.8 per cent increase from a year earlier.
