Rob O’Connor, general manager of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, confirmed he will step down from the position just seven months after taking the job.
He said he’s taking a "once in a lifetime" opportunity in Saskatchewan, where his young family still lives. He’s keeping tight-lipped about the new job, but said it is still in the agricultural event management field.
"I think the people here opened me with open arms, I think there’s a great opportunity here," he told the Sun.
He said he will stay on board for as long as is required. He said the initial shock of the announcement has since subsided.
"I didn’t anticipate it happening either," he said.
He was first approached by the Saskatchewan-based event before the Manitoba Summer Fair and told the executive board on June 24.
"For me personally, it might be selfish ... it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said.
