As the Brandon Wheat Kings prepare for their season opening game tomorrow night, they've settled on a third-year veteran to captain the team.
Eighteen-year old defenceman Ryan Pulock will be wearing the "C" on his Wheaties jersey as the Western Hockey League club takes to the ice Friday against the Regina Pats.
The Grandview, Manitoba product, who is entering his third season with the Wheat Kings, will become the 56th captain in franchise history.
Pulock, who has led Brandon’s blueliners in scoring for the past two seasons, replaces Mark Stone who has graduated from the junior ranks.
Serving as the club's alternates this season will be veterans Ryley Miller, Jens Meilleur and Tyrel Seaman.
A former seventh-round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2009, Pulock was the third highest scoring defenceman in the WHL in 2011-12, setting career highs for goals (19), assists (41) and points (60).
His 42 points as a rookie in 2010-11 established a new club record for 16-year old defencemen, breaking the previous standard set by Wade Redden (39) in 1993-94.
Tickets to Friday’s Brandon Sun Home Opener are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
Fans attending Friday’s opener are encouraged to come early for the pre-game Tailgate Party – presented by the Keystone Centre – scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm in the south parking lot. There will be a Charity Barbecue in support of Hockey Brandon, a beer garden and family entertainment. Doors to Westman Place will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m.
