A standoff in Rapid City has been peacefully resolved, more than 12 hours after police were first called to a domestic dispute.
A 34-year-old Rapid City man was arrested, and will face charges of assault causing bolidy harm. Police say they are continuing to investigate possible firearms-related offenses.
Mounties from Spruce Plains were originally called to the home at about 10 p.m. last night. When they arrived, they learned a distraught man was still inside the home, a woman had been assaulted, and that there was the possibility of guns inside.
The victim, who had managed to leave the house, was taken to Minnedosa hospital, where she was treated and released.
Officers from several detachments cordoned off the area, and closed the nearby school, due to the threat from potential firearms. A couple of dozen residents from about 10 nearby homes were also evacuated.
The man inside the home was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. this morning. Police say he was taken into custody without incident. Police are not identifying him to protect the identity of the victim.
