Half the residents of Cromer have been evacuated due to severe flooding overnight Saturday.

Half the residents of Cromer were evacuated around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

The town located in the RM of Pipestone is struggling to contain flooding issues caused by the river.

"We evacuated people and declared a State of Emergency early this morning," said Reeve Ross Tycoles. "It was not hard to do because much of the town was up anyways."

The water levels were thought to be contained on Saturday evening, Tycoles said. The RM thinks something must of been damaged up stream to cause flooding so quickly in Cromer.

The RM has been sandbagging in the nearby town of Reston in attempts to keep flooding to a minimum.
