Temperatures dipped this morning as skies cleared before dawn, but this should be the last we see of -20ºC for at least a week.

After reaching a high of -12.9ºC at about 3 a.m. this morning, temperatures fell to almost -21ºC by 8 a.m., as clouds rolled out. But the mercury is expected to recover quite nicely later on.

A few clouds are expected tonight, with a low of -14ºC, but tomorrow will be pleasant as well, reaching a high of -6ºC under cloudy skies, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries in the morning and afternoon.

Saturday should be sunny, with a high of -5ºC — a temperature that will hold fairly steady at -6ºC overnight and into Sunday, which will also see a temperature of -6ºC under a mix of sun and cloud.

Monday as well will see mixed skies, with a high of -6ºC, followed by sun on Tuesday and a high of -5ºc. At this point, Wednesday looks like it will see a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of -5ºC.

The normal high for this time of year is -12ºC; the normal low is -23ºC.

The warmest it's ever been on this date was two years ago, in 2012, when it reached 4.5ºC.

The coldest ever on this date wa in 1993, when it was -41.2ºC.
