An off-duty police officer from Regina who happened to be in Brandon helped the local force arrest an alleged impaired driver from Melita.
The Regina officer called Brandon police just before 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon to say that he was following a vehicle he figured was being driven by an impaired driver.
Local officers pulled it over near 18th Street and Victoria Avenue, where sure enough they say the driver showed signs of being impaired. He was taken back to the police station, but refused to give breath samples.
However, he was so intoxicated, police say that they had to take him to the drunk tank.
Once he sobered up a bit, he was released from custody, but he's got a date in court of Aug. 7.
The 52-year-old Melita man will face charges of impaired driving and of refusing a breathalyzer.
