River down 10 inches since second crest

The long, slow receding of the Assiniboine River in Brandon is underway.

City officials said this morning that the river level, as measured at First Street, was 1,182.26 feet above sea level.

While that's an eye-popping height, historically, it's down about half a foot from the morning before and down 10 inches total since the second, record-setting crest this past Saturday.

The river is expected to continue its gradual decline over the next few days and has more than three feet left to fall before First Street North is once again dry.
