Residents in Westman awoke to find between six to 12 centimetres of snow on the ground in some areas.

The snow is part of a winter storm warning that has been issued by Environment Canada that could bring as much as 40 cm of snow throughout the weekend.

Travel is not advised in many areas of Westman and many highways are closed or snow packed.

The storm is expected to bring another 10 cm of snow from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon in Brandon.
