Search continues for man seen in Assiniboine

A search of the Assiniboine River is to continue today, as authorities try to locate a man seen entering the river Saturday.

The man, described as a heavier-set Caucasian man possibly in his 50s, was seen walking out to the cement ledge at the Third Street dam at about 5 p.m. Sunday. He was then seen sitting down and pushing himself forward into the water. The man was seen trying to swim in the river before being pulled under by the strong current, at which point witnesses lost sight of him.

By 8 p.m. last night, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services reported that they had searched the river from the dam down to the area of the Manitoba Hydro generating station.

The subject was not located and the search is to resume again today.
