Second gunpoint robbery targets lottery tickets

Talk about taking chances.

A man with a handgun who robbed the 34th Street 7–11 of lottery tickets last Saturday night may have pulled the same trick a few hours earlier in Elie.

RCMP released details this morning of an armed robbery that took place at a gas station along the Trans-Canada Highway at Elie on March 2.

Witnesses say the man entered the gas station at around 8 p.m., brandishing a handgun, and took an undisclosed amount of cash as well as lottery tickets, before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.

He was described as about five-foot-10 with a medium build, wearing all-black clothing. His head was shaved, and there was a discoloration visible under his right cheek bone.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Police haven't officially linked it to the Brandon robbery, and there are some variations in how the suspects are described.

As previously reported, police say that a man walked into a store in the 3300-block of Victoria Avenue just before midnight on Saturday.

With a hood up, he walked directly toward staff, pulled a handgun from his belt and made some demands. He fled after taking lottery tickets.

He was described as stocky — about five-foot-10 and around 220 pounds, with broad shoulders and clean shaven. He was wearing a white hoodie with black sleeves and a purple plaid shirt underneath with loose-fitting jeans.

Anyone with information about the two robberies is asked to call the Headingly RCMP at 204-888-0358 or the Brandon Police Service at 204-725-2345, or to contact Crime Stoppers.
