Selinger among least-popular premiers: poll

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger

If it is just a popularity contest, then Greg Selinger has some work to do.

The Manitoba premier is among the least popular premiers in Canada, a new poll from Angus Reid Global suggests this morning.

In a December 2013 online survey among 6,580 randomly selected Canadians who are Angus Reid Forum panelists, the group found that Selinger holds just a 28 per cent approval rating – second worst among the nine Canadian premiers on the ballot.

Responding to the question, "Do you approve or disapprove of the performance of the following Premiers?" 62 per cent of people disapproved with the work Selinger has done, with 10 per cent not sure.

Selinger’s approval number actually climbed up two percentage points from the last poll in September 2013. According to Angus Reid, only Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Kathy Dunderdale held a lower approval rating at 24 per cent.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall leads the poll with a 66 per cent approval, followed by Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil (57 per cent) and British Columbia Premier Christy Clark (42 per cent).

Rounding out the list is Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne (35 per cent), Quebec Premier Pauline Marois (32 per cent), and Alberta Premier Alison Redford and New Brunswick Premier David Alward (both at 31 per cent).

Well, lets give credit….where credit is due…Premier Selinger worked very hard to get this rating.Forcing amalgamation of municipalities, placing a tax on items that were never taxed previously ( ie:Home Insurance) and last but not least, the PST increase! ( Promise made….Promise broken ) A very deserving rating for the Manitoba ,NDP Premier. Edward Schreyer, "Ed" Broadbent, and others are probably wondering why the approval rating came in as 2nd worst. ( and not worst )
