Manitoba premier Greg Selinger will visit Birtle and Waywayseecappo today.
The two communities are threatened by a crumbling berm that may give way, sending floodwaters rushing down a tributary of Birdtail Creek.
A dozen homes have been evacuated, and there are fears for bridges, roads and other infrastructure in the area if the berm gives way.
Highway 45 has been closed near there, and traffic is being rerouted to Highway 16. Earthen dikes are being strengthened and emergency flood tubes are also being rolled out.
The premier is expected in Birtle shortly after 11 a.m., and will be in Waywayseecappo a little before 2 p.m.
The Brandon Sun has a team in the area.
