A 21-year-old Brandon man has been issued a ticket for imprudent driving, after the semi he was driving rolled earlier this month, killing a number of hogs. The ticket carries a set fine of $199.80.

It took much of the afternoon on May 8 to clear the Trans-Canada Highway of pigs that were running free after the crash. The semi had rolled into the median, about five kilometres west of the Kemnay turnoff.

The driver of the semi wasn't injured, but the trailer had been loaded with about 225 hogs and several of them had to be euthanized. An official, precise figure for the number of animals killed wasn’t available.

An RCMP spokesman told the Sun after the crash that it was clear, sunny with no wind at the time of the rollover. The road was dry and that part of the highway isn’t considered a problem when it comes to crashes.
