Severe thunderstorm watches in Westman

Several areas of southwestern Manitoba are under severe thunderstorm watches, as storms roll through Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada says that a trough of low pressure tracking across Saskatchewan is triggering isolated thunderstorm over southeastern Saskatchewan. These thunderstorms are expected to drift into western Manitoba later this afternoon. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe, giving damaging winds, large hail and torrential downpours.

A "watch" is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorm. If storms appear imminent, the forecasters will issue a warning.

Severe Thundersorm Watches are currently issued for:

  • Melita, Boissevain, Turtle Mountain
  • Virden, Souris
  • Minnedosa, Neepawa, Russell, Riding Mountain
  • Dauphin, Roblin, Winnipegosis
  • Ste-Rose, McCreary, Alonsa, Gladstone

In Brandon, the forecast calls for a high of 33 C this afternoon, with a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms late this afternoon. No watch or warning has yet been issued for Brandon.
